The power & beauty of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music consistently transcend social & musical boundaries and inspire deep appreciation and strong emotion. Yet sadly, in many countries audiences for Bach’s music, and classical music in general, continue to shrink.
In 2010, Dale Henderson began frequent performances of the Bach Cello Suites in the subways of New York City. Convinced the decline in classical audiences was largely because many people never get a chance to experience this music live and up close, he believed Bach to be the perfect ambassador for his art form. His efforts, which he called “Bach in the Subways,” attracted appreciative attention from fans, other musicians, and the media. This free event continued on the anniversary of Bach's birthday in late March, and has spread to cities all over the world.
New Haven is excited to host another in-person and live-streamed musical celebration of J. S. Bach! The performances are all completely free of charge and open to all. Come when you can!
Join the American Guild of Organists on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 for an exciting mix of local performers, including organ, English horn, piano, flute, etc., sharing Bach’s amazing music.

On October 22, 2023, the Rev. Dr. Stephen G. Ray, Jr. was formally installed as the 29th Senior Minister of United Church on the Green. This installation took place following a vibrant service with an inspiring message from the Rev. Traci Blackmon, where we shared a joyous time of fellowship.
Why not visit some Sunday morning and see what all the excitement is about?
In a world where Christianity is too often associated with intolerance, exclusion, and hate, the mission of United Church on the Green is to proclaim Christ through faith, hope, and love. We are a community of many races, ethnic backgrounds, religious experiences, ages, sexual orientations, and gender identities. No matter where you are on your journey of faith, you will have a home here at United Church on the Green.

We will say it again: No matter where you are on your journey of faith, you will have a home here at United Church on the Green.
At United Church on the Green, located in a Blue (Yale) city, in a Blue (Progressive) state, we can sometimes take the fact that we invite, welcome, accept and affirm everyone, no matter who he/she/they are a little for granted. Sadly, the hurricanes of hatred and intolerance that were unleashed by a certain twice indicted former office holder, are still swirling.
On Sunday June 25, a Pride Sunday worship service at Enfield Congregational UCC was interrupted by two individuals intent on disrupting the service and the message of inclusive love. Their intent was undoubtedly not just to disrupt, but to spread their message of hatred and to intimidate by their fundamentalist views, a community of individuals, trans, gay, lesbian, bi, and questioning, who have suffered years of emotional abuse from these corrupters of Christianity. As an Open and Affirming congregation for nearly 35 years, we have an obligation not only to show our love and support for our brothers and sisters in Enfield, but to stand up and state that such hateful behavior cannot be tolerated; to state that when you attack one of our members, you attack us all.
For too many years, young queer kids have grown up believing the hatred that they could not be Christian. Our presence will help destroy that lie. The police are investigating whether to charge the offenders with a hate crime under Connecticut law, in addition to the criminal trespass charges already lodged. Enfield’s Pastor Greg Gray organized the Love Louder Vigil as one way to protect the sanctity of their Meeting House, their safe space, which had been violated.
It is hard to believe that we have to re-fight these battles in 2023. But the forces of evil are persistent and frighteningly well organized. These fundamentalists have targeted equality. They seek to turn the clock back to a time when they could intimidate us, to maintain the illusion of homogeneity over diversity. They seek to scare us into submission just as they did when they burned crosses, bombed churches, assaulted temples, gunned us down at dance clubs and murdered us. They have placed their friends in law enforcement, and on the judicial bench.
We must stand together against this hatred. We cannot afford to be complacent. Make it known in every way you can, that we insist on fundamental equality. We insist on Love.
